TB-500
A synthetic counterpart of thymosin beta-4, a protein that helps repair cells migrate into injured tissue.
The basics
Thymosin beta-4 is a 43-amino-acid protein found in nearly every human cell. It binds actin, the structural protein cells use to move, and so helps repair cells travel into a wound. TB-500 is the synthetic version used in practice.
We review the studies, the potential uses and benefits, and the open questions in our research post, TB-500 and Thymosin Beta-4, Tested in Skin and Eyes but Not Yet in Tendons.
What the evidence looks like
Early. Animal studies show faster healing of skin, cornea, and heart tissue, and early human trials of thymosin beta-4 tested skin wounds and eye healing. No human trial has tested it for tendon or muscle injury.
Why patients ask about it
- Soft tissue injuries and recovery from training
- Wound healing
- Pairing with BPC-157 for tendon and ligament problems
Good to know
- Compounded TB-500 is not FDA-approved.
- We don't prescribe it to patients with active cancer.
- Prohibited in competitive sport.
TB-500 and Thymosin Beta-4, Tested in Skin and Eyes but Not Yet in Tendons
TB-500 is the synthetic counterpart of thymosin beta-4, a protein your platelets carry to a wound. Human trials exist for skin ulcers and the cornea, and none exists for the tendon and muscle injuries most people ask me about.
